The Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet offers a mini-residency program to university music schools in the southeast. In general, the residency consists of group master classes, individual master lessons, critiques of student brass ensembles, and lectures that may include brass techniques, repertoire for the brass quintet, group interaction in a brass quintet, and a historical overview of the brass quintet. The residency can be tailored to meet your needs.
The residency can also be tailored to emphasize challenges music education students may face, particularly in relation to brass instruments. The Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet devotes a large amount of time to the education of public school students and would enjoy talking about what we have learned as well as hearing about unique problems your students are encountering.
A mini-residency ends with a concert that is open to students, faculty, and the community. Selections for the concert will be made from the SMBQ’s repertoire. However, the quintet would be open to your program suggestions should your music school wish the Quintet to emphasize a particular style or musical period.
The basic cost of a two-day residency is $3,000. Travel and housing will be added to the basic fee. The Quintet would be happy to work with you on public relations for the concert. Contact us to schedule your residency.
